The Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival, now in its 11th year, is a nonprofit organization founded by filmmakers to champion and celebrate the rich, diverse and challenging world of documentary film. We recognize and honor film and filmmakers who deserve a closer look.
WE CELEBRATE ALL DOCS ALL YEAR
Documentaries are not diversion but engagement. We’re not trying to move you away from life, but closer to it.” Albert Maysles, documentary filmmaker
WHO WE ARE
The Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival is a nonprofit organization, founded 11 years ago by filmmakers for filmmakers to champion and celebrate the rich, diverse and challenging world of documentary film. Entering our second decade, we have expanded beyond our signature December film festival to become a year round organization which
provides a platform for emerging and established US filmmakers and an opportunity for community audiences and schools to experience the art of visual storytelling.
WHAT WE DO
Hamptons Take 2 Doc Fest is our signature event – an annual 5 day festival in December - ‘all docs all day’ - where we welcome filmmakers, documentary film lovers and local area students to the historic village of Sag Harbor, New York for dozens of films, discussions, panels, media labs, awards and celebrations. In this intimate, walkable setting, festival-goers enjoy the local area’s many shops, restaurants, inns, museums, and parks in between the screenings of outstanding new documentary films accompanied by discussions with the filmmakers.
Spring Docs & Fall Screenings bring some of the top films currently on the festival circuit to the East End audiences. The screenings are paired with filmmaker Q/As plus roundtables with appropriate experts on the film’s subject.
FilmArts+Forum. HT2FF created and supports this popular community outreach program which makes our award-winning festival films available at no cost to the East End and Shelter Island libraries as well as non-profit organizations such as the South Fork Natural History Society and the Parrish Museum, among others. If you missed it at the festival, catch it throughout the year at one of our “Take In a Take 2 Film” screenings and discussions.
Young Voices & The Media Lab Digital media and the moving image are the language of today’s youth, a generation held captive by the internet, cell phones, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, television, interactive video games and platforms yet to debut. Our two youth programs aim to teach students the language of film and social engagement through in-school programs (The Media Lab) and festival screenings and presentations (Young Voices).

In 2013 we created our first industry Advisory Board, now a group of 11 highly accomplished members of the documentary film community. Their input plays a key role in developing programs and incubating new ideas which will benefit filmmakers and audiences alike. We believe the work and experience of an Advisory Board offers the festival a wealth of creative input and connection. The intent is to gather, pollinate ideas and put them into practice for a growing and important documentary film festival.
