From Academy Award-winning director Roger Ross Williams, Life, Animated is the inspirational story of Owen Suskind, a young man who was unable to speak as a child until he and his family discovered a unique way to communicate by immersing themselves in the world of classic Disney animated films.

Owen, the son of the Pulitzer Prizewinning journalist Ron Suskind and his wife, Cornelia, is a boy with autism who couldn’t speak for years, memorized dozens of Disney movies and turned them into a language to express love and loss, kinship and brotherhood. His imagination unlocked a whole amazing world. Owen’s story is a moving testament to the many ways in which stories can serve as a means of persevering through the dark times, leading us all toward the light.

The first film that Roger Ross Williams directed and produced was Music by Prudence, which won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject. Williams next directed the feature documentary God Loves Uganda, which was shortlisted for a 2014 Academy Award. Before moving into independent filmmaking, Williams was a television journalist and producer for 15 years for outlets including: TV Nation, ABC News, NBC News, CNN, PBS, Comedy Central, and the Sundance Channel.
