The Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival, now in its 11th year, is a nonprofit organization founded by filmmakers to champion and celebrate the rich, diverse and challenging world of documentary film. We recognize and honor film and filmmakers who deserve a closer look.

HT2FF was founded and run by documentary filmmakers whose passion for the genre celebrates what it takes to produce a memorable doc. As Albert Maysles, veteran documentary filmmaker, said: “Documentaries are not diversion but engagement. We’re not trying to move you away from life, but closer to it.” HT2FF is the ‘art house’ festival for shorts, features and student films selected without the customary submission restrictions that often lead to exclusion.

The impetus for the Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival, now in its 11th year, builds community around the art of visual storytelling. Our mission is to create high-visibility, theatrical venues for talented documentary filmmakers whose works deserve screen time, a second cut or ‘take 2’ as they say in the movie making business.

The annual 5-day festival runs all docs all day, at the Bay Street Theater in the historic village of Sag Harbor, NY. Throughout the year we present seasonal events to screen important films paired with panel discussions. Our year-round Library FilmArts+Forum program provides festival films to East End libraries; student workshops, taught by industry professionals, motivate young filmmakers in the art & mechanics of the documentary; partnerships with organizations, institutions and film schools cross pollinate both our efforts.

Jacqui Lofaro

Founder & Executive Director of the Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival (HT2FF).

In 2013 we created our first industry Advisory Board, now a group of 11 highly accomplished members of the documentary film community. Their input plays a key role in developing programs and incubating new ideas which will benefit filmmakers and audiences alike. We believe the work and experience of an Advisory Board offers the festival a wealth of creative input and connection. The intent is to gather, pollinate ideas and put them into practice for a growing and important documentary film festival.
